— The painting, one of the oldest tribal art forms, is also known as Idital. Hence, statement 2 is correct.

— The artworks are famous for their beauty, aesthetics, ritualistic association and iconography.

— The art form belongs to the Lanjia Saura community, a PVTG largely residing in the Rayagada district. Hence, statement 3 is not correct.

— The Soligas, or Sholagas, are an ethnic group with origins dating back to 800-2000 BC. While Soliga means “children of bamboo”, Sholaga refers to people belonging to the Shola, tropical montane forests separated by grasslands found in the hill ranges of the South.

— Indigenous groups, Soligas and Yeravas have lived for thousands of years in the Cauvery Basin and its surrounding hills in peninsular India.

— During the summer, members of the indigenous community Soliga create teams to collect honey. Honey bees build colonies in the cracks and fissures of steep cliffs in the Western Ghats.

5. (a)

FYI:

— A portion of the Virupaksha temple in Karnataka collapsed following torrential rains. The temple’s pavilion or the saalu mantap was damaged.

— However, ASI officials argued that the restoration work of the temple, including the pavilion, was already underway and the rains led to its pre-emptive collapse.

— A nationally protected monument and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the temple is believed to have its origins in the 7th century.

— The Virupaksha temple gained prominence and underwent extensive expansion in the 14th century during the Vijayanagara Empire (1336 to 1646).
