A woman was so engrossed with her phone on the subway that she didn’t realise she had reached the edge of a platform, and fell onto the tracks in Spain in the path of a train. The dramatic footage recorded at the Estrecho station in Madrid is now going viral and is being used to warn other passengers.

A video released by the Metro de Madrid shows passengers waiting at an underground station, while a train is seen in the distance. As commuters move towards the edge of the platform, one woman who is using her phone is seen walking right off the platform and falls on the tracks.

The agency that operates the metro network said that the passenger didn’t suffer any serious injuries and is fine. However, they said the footage is being shared to raise awareness and urge passengers to pay greater attention when they’re boarding a train.

The agency asked passengers to “look up from their mobile phones when walking along the platform” and warned that “not looking up when you are waiting for the subway is a distraction that can prove expensive”.
