Art does not have to be fancy or complicated to make an impact. Now a video that shows two women drawing an optical illusion around a pole, proves just this. In the clip, the women draw a simple, three-dimensional image around a pole, creating the illusion of a platform-like structure around it. The video, which has by now gathered hundreds of likes, was posted by an account that goes by the name Punam Art Academy (@punamartacademy) on Instagram and YouTube. After completing the work, the two women – clad in unassuming sarees – are even seen ‘balancing’ themselves and walking around the edge of the ‘platform’ they created, a simple delight flashing across their faces. In it, the artist employed trompe-l’œil, a realistic imagery technique, to create an optical illusion which made it appear that a girl was spinning on a ball in the middle of a tree trunk. The video was posted on Twitter by a popular account that goes by the name Gabriele Corno (@Gabriele_Corno). In April, a picture of popular ceramics company Casa Ceramica’s Manchester store went viral, thanks to its special design that made it look like the floor was caved in. On the company website, Casa Ceramica explained the ideation behind this unique design and wrote, “We decided that as the floor sloped up we would make the ceiling slope down, thus creating the illusion that the space was shrinking. This is where the concept of creating an Alice in Wonderland theme came in. We gathered ideas following a black and white chequerboard idea seen within the movie.”
