A woman who ordered food via Zomato in Gujarat was annoyed by a “container charge” levied on the order and took to the microblogging website X, previously Twitter, to complain. Zomato also responded to the woman’s claim.
Khushboo Thakkar, from Ahmedabad, had ordered the traditional Gujarati dish Dudhi Thepla, priced at Rs 60 each. Her order totalled Rs 180. However, an additional container charge of Rs 60 was also levied on the order bringing the total to Rs 240 before taxes. Thakkar was miffed about the container charge being equal to that of the item she had ordered.
“Container charge is equivalent to the item that I have ordered ₹60 for the container charge Seriously??” she posted on X.

Zomato Care replied to the user and wrote, “Hi Khushboo, while taxes are universal and vary from 5 – 18% depending on the type of food. Packaging charges are levied by our restaurant partners, they are the ones who implement and earn from this practice.”

“As it is, the food they are selling is costlier and such an unfair addition, we should now think and stop ordering from them. For now, you should definitely get a refund for the additional cost they have charged in the name of the container,” a user commented.

Zomato first time made a profit and to maintain this profitability and sustainable growth they start to charge platform fee also for gold users.

Depends whether it was declared upfront or was added later. Can’t complain if it’s the former
