Sohan Rai, a tech enthusiast, was able to make the drone fly on its own without a pilot.
There has been a lot of talk that drones would be replacing delivery agents or making their jobs easier by reaching remote locations in half the time. However, till now the idea has never been put into practice on a commercial scale.
A man decided to demonstrate how food delivery could be made via a drone. Sohan Rai, a tech enthusiast, decided to work for Zomato for a day to implement his idea. He realised how hard it is for delivery agents to locate homes or drive in adverse weather conditions. So, he decided to build his own autonomous drone using his experience with drones. He even programmed it to make it pilotless.
After a few crashes, he was able to make the drone fly on its own without a pilot. He even created a dropping mechanism so he could drop the order to the customer’s house.
He received an order from Pizza Hut and to deliver the order, he reached an open place. He then loaded the pizza to the drone to deliver it to the customer. The delivery location was 1.5 kms away. He uploaded the delivery path into the drone and was all set. The drone took off with the pizza and started its pilotless flight. He flew another drone above it to follow it and record its delivery. He then called the customer on phone and told her to come outside to her building compound. The woman was surprised to see her pizza being delivered via a drone.
“Drone Delivery: A thing that we have been hearing for a very long time, but have not seen it happening practically in India. Being a huge enthusiast of drones, I wanted to put my skills into use and build an autonomous drone which could deliver a pizza directly to a home, without having a pilot. Here, I have built the drone with a lot of Jugaad, and it would be a lot better when it is commercial. This is an experiment and was conducted with safety and precautions. It was really amazing to see the reactions and happiness of people. Drone delivery is not a dream! It is happening and will happen in India very very soon!” Rai wrote as caption.

“What if the customer choose cash on delivery,” a user joked. “Bro realised how hard the zomato job is, so he decided to make a drone to make them job less,” said another. “This is future… but in india you will not get your drone back,” another netizen posted sarcastically.
