Veteran news anchor Shammi Narang reads bulletin on DD News Foundation day, netizens react to viral video: ‘Beautiful and nostalgic’

Shammi Narang, former news anchor and voice-over artist, got back to DD News on its foundation day on November 3.

Doordarshan ruled every Indian household before cable TV, digital TV, and the internet took over. Newsreaders and anchors with DD News presented news to the audiences without sensationalism. Shammi Narang, former news anchor and voice-over artist, got back to DD News on its foundation day on November 3. India’s premier public service news broadcaster was launched in 2003 as a 24-hour news channel.

On Sunday, Narang read a bulletin as a “special surprise”. “It feels like a bride returning to her parents’ place,” he says in the video. “After almost 23 years, I returned to read the bulletin as a special surprise on @DDNewslive‘s foundation day,” Narang wrote on X.

With over 16,000 views, the video amassed several reactions as social media users got nostalgic. A user wrote, “Great sir. So beautiful and nostalgic. Took me back to those years when News was an event we used to look forward to. Listening to your magical voice was truly emotional for me. God bless sir.” Another user commented, “Those were good days when you and Salma Sultan, Meena Talwar and Sarla M were news anchors. Real news, no noise no personal opinion, no debates.”

“Nice to see this and remember those days when I used to watch the 8.40pm news along with parents,” a third user said.

DD News broadcasts daily news in Hindi, English, Urdu, and Sanskrit, and airs over 17 hours of live transmission and 30 news bulletins daily.
