‘Unnecessary invention’: Man builds AI-powered device that orders food when his stomach growls

In the video, Sohan M Rai says, “I invented this device which understands when I’m hungry and automatically orders food on Zomato.”
Rai demonstrates how he built the gadget, a small module that can be clipped onto his belt. He said he has named the device “MOM (Meal Ordering Module)” and says it detects stomach growls, and places an order.
To assemble the hardware, he said, he used multiple components, including a stethoscope borrowed from his sister. The device relies on Claude AI to assess his hunger levels.
Sharing the video, he wrote, “Didn’t expect this would happen.”

The video stunned several users, accumulating a flurry of reactions. “Should be featured in unnecessary invention,” a user wrote. “Growl does not mean hungry. Nice work though,” another user commented.

Rai, who hails from Mangaluru, regularly shares tech videos. According to his LinkedIn profile, he graduated from Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management. After a series of internships at different tech companies, he started his own venture, while also creating content on Instagram.
In 2023, he went viral after joining Zomato as a delivery partner and delivering food using a drone he built himself.
Sharing the experiment on social media, he wrote, “I wanted to put my skills into use and build an autonomous drone which could deliver a pizza directly to a home, without having a pilot. Here, I have built the drone with a lot of Jugaad, and it would be a lot better when it is commercial. This is an experiment and was conducted with safety and precautions.”
