With entrepreneurship thriving in India, young professionals often look for motivational figures to help them stay inspired and keep moving forward. Amid talks on startups and innovations flooding social media, Unacademy CEO Gaurav Munjal recently revealed a piece of “life-changing” advice he once received from Zomato’s founder and CEO Deepinder Goyal.

Opening about his early days in an X post, Munjal recalled how his “mentor” refused to meet him initially. “In 2015, as a 25 year old kid who had just started Unacademy. I sent an email to @deepigoyal. He replied back by saying, ‘Kyon milna hai yaar. Dhandha banao’ (Why do you want to meet, man? Focus on business),” Munjal wrote. Despite the rejection, Munjal refused to take no for an answer.

“I didn’t give up. I kept mailing him every week. And finally he did agree for a 15m Meeting (after months of chasing him). He was in a bad mood that day, so he met me just for 10m but gave me an advice that stayed with me,” he added.

Goyal told him, “Just grow 1% every day. Everything else is secondary.” Concluding, Munjal wrote, “I urge everyone to read this Book. The stories that I heard from Deepinder, and the advice I got over the years, changed my Life. Time for the same stories, to change yours.”

Along with the post, Munjal attached the screenshot of his conversation he had with Goyal.

The post quickly gained traction, resonating with several users. “This is very underrated Idea, as we usually do overthinking and less action,” a user wrote. “Persistence pays off, weekly follow-ups turned a no into mentorship. Deepinder’s advice to grow 1% daily changed a life,” another user commented.

“Goyal is one of the few young-age entrepreneur who deserves much more respect and recognition. Nothing but respect for him,” a third user reacted.
