Tamil YouTuber ‘Biriyani Man’ arrested for insulting women in videos, here’s everything you need to know

The YouTuber was arrested under the IT Act, Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act 1986, The Sexual Harassment of Women Act, 2013, and Tamil Nadu Prevention of Violence against Women Act (TNPHW Act).

Tamil YouTuber Abbishek Rabi, popular as ‘Biriyani Man’, landed in trouble for insulting women in his videos. Rabi was arrested by the Chennai cyber crime police on Monday after a woman filed a complaint over indecent remarks about women in a video.

According to a press note shared by the Greater Chennai police, Rabi was arrested under the IT Act, Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act 1986, The Sexual Harassment of Women Act, 2013, and Tamil Nadu Prevention of Violence against Women Act (TNPHW Act). The BNS sections under which a case was lodged against him included section 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and section 353 (punishment on public mischief).

Informing the public of the action taken through their official X handle, Chennai police wrote, “Let’s stand against online harassment and promote a safer digital environment.”

In one of his videos, Rabi, who has over 43,000 Instagram followers, commented about dating and finding a match on dating apps. “They (women) usually have extreme ego and they have to initiate the conversation in the app. Would that even happen, how? Just send a Hi, I will take care of the rest and correct you,” he had said in the video.

According to other reports, another case was filed against Rabi after he attempted to take his life on camera.

Demanding his arrest, a user shared the said video on X and wrote, “Arrest #biriyaniman Open suicide attempt on youtube. So many kids are watching all these he is setting a bad example for kids who can be easily influenced through youtube. Requesting @tnpoliceoffl to take strict action on such a trigger content.”
