The video, shared by @SurrbhiM on social media platform X, shows Rahul Gandhi engaging with the crowd, noting the extreme heat, drinking from a water bottle and pouring the rest on his head to cool down. It evoked a loud cheer from the audience too. The video has garnered over 5,000 views.
During his address, he drank water from a bottle and told the audience “garmee hai kaafi (it’s too hot).” After this, he poured water from the bottle on his head, prompting a cheer from the crowd.
Rahul Gandhi was campaigning for Sadal Prasad, the Congress candidate from Bansgaon (SC) Lok Sabha seat. The constituency will vote in the seventh phase of Lok Sabha elections, scheduled to take place on June 1.
Gandhi’s actions highlighted the severe conditions in many parts of North India, where oppressive heat and hot winds have worsened the residents’ suffering. Uttar Pradesh and nearby states are facing some of the highest temperatures seen in recent years.

The Met department has issued a warning of heatwave (locally called loo) conditions likely to continue at places across Uttar Pradesh. Prayagraj in the state recorded the highest ever temperature in May at 48.8 degrees Celsius while the neighbouring Delhi sweltered at temperatures above 52 degrees Celsius on Wednesday. This was the highest maximum temperature recorded in the capital this season. IMD has said that 10 weather stations recorded the highest-ever maximum temperature and the highest for the month in May — Agra-Taj (48.6 degrees Celsius), Dehri in Bihar (47 degrees Celsius), Hamirpur in Uttar Pradesh (48.2 degrees Celsius), Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh (49 degrees Celsius), Narnaul in Haryana (48.5 degrees Celsius), Ayanagar-Delhi (47.6 degrees Celsius), New Delhi-Ridge (47.5 degrees Celsius), Rewa in Madhya Pradesh (48.2 degrees Celsius), Rohtak in Haryana (48.1 degrees Celsius), and Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh (47.2 degrees Celsius).
