It has become a trend among many social media influencers to ride atop cars or jeeps to grab eyeballs on their videos. A woman’s stunt sitting on the bonnet of a Mahindra Thar in Dasuya town of Punjab, however, landed her in trouble as Punjab Police impounded the vehicle.

Gauri Virdi had posted a video on Instagram in which she is seen sitting atop the bonnet of the Thar as it moves around with other SUVs in tow. Hoshiarpur police posted the video on X (formerly known as Twitter) and informed that they have impounded the vehicle.

Inspector Balwinder Singh, the station house officer of Dasuya, says in the video that they were made aware of the video doing the rounds on social media. He said the vehicle has been seized under the Motor Vehicles Act and an investigation is being conducted. Singh said strict action will be taken on such viral videos in which traffic rules are broken.

“Punjab Police is always at your service and appeals to all the citizens to cooperate with the Punjab Police in performing their duties properly,” it said in another tweet.

The post has received more than 10,000 views so far and netizens appreciated the action taken by police.

“Good Work.. These types of influencers are the real culprits who think that they are above law and do whatever on the road. I hope the lesson is learned now. Obey traffic rules if not for your sake at least for the ones who are using the same road to reach their home safely,” a user commented. “Good work,” said another.
