However, travelling solo has always been challenging for women. Many women vloggers have raised safety concerns in the past. A Polish traveller and Instagram content creator, Kasia, recently shared a disturbing incident that occurred during her solo trek in Himachal Pradesh.
In a video posted on her Instagram, she documented how a man began following her down a mountain path near her guest house, allegedly insisting on taking pictures with her despite her repeated refusals.
“At first, I thought he was asking me to take a picture of him, but I quickly realized he wanted to take a picture with me,” Kasia wrote in the caption. “I said no, because I didn’t feel like stopping for a chat or taking pictures. I wanted to be in my own space.”
Having spent a considerable amount of time in India, Kasia mentioned that she had already posed for countless selfies with strangers, often accompanied by small talk. “After so much time spent in India and so many selfies taken with strangers that include small talk, I really don’t feel I want to do this anymore,” she said.
Despite her clear refusal, the man reportedly continued to follow her, and even shouted at her in Hindi. Feeling increasingly uncomfortable and unsafe, Kasia began recording the encounter with her phone. In the video, she is heard firmly telling the man, “I don’t want to take a picture with you. Can you stop following me? I don’t like this.” Once he realised he was being recorded, the man walked away.

“I am not an animal in the zoo to look at and take pictures. It’s so uncomfortable,” she expressed in frustration in the caption. “To some Indian men – don’t be a creep. We, foreign women, don’t want to feel like meat. Staring at us weirdly is not going to make us want to talk to you. I am not an object. Let me be,” she said.
Although Kasia turned off the comments section for this video, she addressed the incident in a follow-up post. She clarified that she would not let this experience stop her from travelling alone.
“There’s a saying that goes – India is not for beginners. My intention wasn’t to scare women, or to put a bad name on the whole nation. My intention was to show an example of what not to do when you’re a man, and to raise awareness. Doesn’t matter if you’re Indian, Croatian, or British,” she wrote.
