Gone are the days when breaks at work were a chance to connect with colleagues through casual conversations or build workplace camaraderie over shared meals. However, today, many break rooms have shifted, and heads are bowed not in conversation, but over mobile phones.

An old video, reportedly captured inside the Infosys canteen in Bengaluru during the 1990s, has caught the internet’s attention. Captioned, “Footage from Infosys canteen, Bangalore in the 1990s. Almost everyone in this is probably a multi-millionaire and settled abroad today,” the viral video shows a group of young professionals chatting over lunch, laughing, seemingly unaware that they were part of India’s tech revolution.

Although the authenticity of the footage hasn’t been confirmed, it has resonated widely, particularly among former employees and IT veterans.

With over four million views, the nostalgic video sparked a flurry of reactions. “So much class! They look relaxed. Everyone looks fit & sober too. No phone in hands either. Golden days when every upper middle class had some hope,” a user wrote. “Aah the campus that didn’t care of caste, creed, sex and yet positively impacted equally across societies. Maybe someone from the founder families should run govt and frame policies? Oh wait,” another user commented.

“this is literally a glimpse into the making of the tech revolution,” a third user reacted.

Infosys, established in 1981 by N R Narayana Murthy and six co-founders, was one of the earliest Indian firms to introduce employee stock options. This move helped create thousands of first-generation wealth creators.

“In our journey of over 40 years, we have catalyzed some of the major changes that have led to India’s emergence as the global destination for software services talent. We pioneered the Global Delivery Model and became the first IT Company from India to be listed on NASDAQ. Our employee stock options program created some of India’s first salaried millionaires,” Infosys’ official website reads.
