Mumbai’s Navratri celebrations took on a festive sparkle this year as Nita Ambani, founder and chairperson of Reliance Foundation, joined Garba queen Falguni Pathak at the Jio World Convention Centre for a spirited night of dance and devotion. The event, Radiance Dandiya, blended music, tradition, and celebration, drawing devotees in large numbers.
A video shared online by the convention centre captured the evening’s highlight: Nita Ambani matching steps with Falguni Pathak as she performed her signature Navratri songs. Taking a moment to engage with the audience, Ambani recalled her younger days fondly: “When I was a young girl, I used to dance all nine nights of Navratri. It brings back so many beautiful, youthful memories. I have known Falguni for 25 years.”
Known for hosting grand festive celebrations, the Ambani family once again embraced tradition with enthusiasm. Social media was quick to react to the viral video, with one admirer writing, “These two great Gujaratans that every Gujarati should be proud of… God bless both of you.” Another called them simply, “Icons.”
Navratri, meaning “nine nights” in Sanskrit, honours Goddess Durga and her nine forms. The period also coincides with Durga Puja, or Sharodotsava, which celebrates the goddess’s triumph over Mahishasur. This year’s Radiance Dandiya, held on September 22 at the Jio World Convention Centre, brought together music, culture, and nostalgia, with Nita Ambani and Falguni Pathak at its heart.
Falling in the lunar month of Ashwin, the festival is marked by deep devotion, vibrant rituals, and spirited cultural celebrations. Devotees often keep fasts, sing bhajans in praise of the goddess, and join in traditional dances such as Garba and Dandiya.
