A leopard attacked a group of picnickers in the South Forest Division Range of Shahdol in Madhya Pradesh on Sunday. According to NDTV, three people were reportedly injured after the big cat mauled them.

The incident occurred near the Son River in Khitauli. The report further stated that the picnickers noticed the leopard in the bushes and instigated it. In the viral video, the group of men can be seen calling out the leopard. “Aa jaa, aa jaa (Come here, come here),” they said.

As the video progresses, the leopard can be seen running towards the group while many keep screaming and filming the scene. “Are nahi, mat kar (Hey! No. Don’t do this),” a man said in the video.

The said video gained traction as several social media users slammed the picnickers for mocking the animal. A user wrote, “Clear instructions not to tease animals, now enjoy the bite.” Another user commented, “Asked for it isn’t it! Assistant sub for sure asked for it, law abiding citizens.”

“Humans will never learn,” a third user reacted.

Three people who got injured in the incident have been identified as Nitin Samdariya, an assistant sub-inspector with Shahdol police, Akash Kushwaha, and Nandini Singh, residents of Shahdol town, around 100 km from Khitauli, NDTV reported.

“Advisory has been issued. We have asked officials to alert villagers and other people not to go into the forests. A control room has also been set up to help people in such incidents,” Badshah Rawat, Sub-Divisional Forest Officer, Shahdol, told NDTV.
