India is home to many places of historical and natural significance. One such place is the Kalavantin Durg, a high summit in Maharashtra’s Raigad district.
It takes one a steep trek of 2,250 feet to reach the top of the summit. On Saturday, business magnate Anand Mahindra shared a video that captured the narrow staircases of the Kalavantin Durg trek.
Mahindra wrote, “I confess I had no clue about this spot. Have to figure out whether I’m up to this challenge! The trek to the top of the Kalavantin Durg is considered one of the most daunting in the Western Ghats. A roughly 60-degree incline.”

His tweet gathered over 12,000 likes. Commenting on it, a Twitter user recalled his experience of trekking through the summit and said, “What I felt when I went for it is that the ascend is highly tiring but the tricky part is the descend (descent), Kalavantin takes a real test of your knees and bodily balance.”
Even as many people marvelled at the difficulty of the trek, a few noted that the video shared by Mahindra exaggerates it. Echoing this view, a Twitter user wrote, “For the love of god. This video has been sped up and shot at an angle which hyperinflates how difficult Kalavantin really is. Today it isn’t, there are literally stairs! It would be difficult if you were climbing it while riding a horse or without stairs. SM ruined it.”
People also noted that there should be safety provisions added along the trekking route. “For safety they can have a side railing, where people can add their sling. Checkout #ViaFerrata it will be much safer for all,” a Twitter user suggested.
