Cricket fans in India are known for their superstitions, especially during big matches, and it turns out business tycoon Anand Mahindra is no exception. On the day of India’s crucial semi-final against Australia in Dubai, an X user urged the Mahindra Group chairman, “Please don’t watch #IndvsAus match,” in response to a post about street design.

After India’s victory, Mahindra shared the message again, revealing that he had actually followed the advice. “Of course I didn’t. And as a result, we won…” he wrote, suggesting that his decision might have brought the team good luck.

A user called him, “Real Indian!” Another user wrote, “Thanks for the sacrifice.”

Another cricket fan commented, “Yup I was also hoping that you are not watching the match like me.” A fourth person commented, “Funny how sports have this unexplainable connection with superstitions. Sachin Tendulkar stayed in the dressing room during the final moments of the 2011 World Cup due to superstition. He believed continuing his behavior from a previous match (not watching) would help maintain luck.”

Mahindra has openly admitted before that he avoids watching India’s cricket matches out of fear that his presence might bring bad luck. In March 2023, he shared a similar experience on X when he attended an India-Australia match in Mumbai. Excited to witness an easy win, he arrived at the start of India’s innings—only for the team to lose three wickets soon after. Realising the pattern, he said, “I better leave before I’m crucified for being the cause of the wickets!”

In the Champions Trophy semi-final held yesterday in Dubai, India took on Australia and clinched a thrilling four-wicket victory. After winning the toss, Australia chose to bat first but struggled against India’s bowling attack, getting dismissed for 264. Virat Kohli was once again the backbone of India’s chase, delivering a superb 84-run innings. Hardik Pandya provided the finishing touches with three massive sixes, while KL Rahul sealed the deal in style, smashing the match-winning sixer.
