Captain America vs Thanos iconic fight scene from ‘Avengers: Endgame’ features on IIT Varanasi exam paper

The question on the IIT Varanasi exam paper asked students to apply engineering principles to the scene where Captain America proves himself worthy of wielding Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir.

Avengers: Endgame, Marvel’s 2019 blockbuster, has a colossal fan following in India. One of the most iconic scenes from the superhero film is the fight scene between Captain America (played by Chris Evans) and Thanos (played by Josh Brolin). After nearly half a decade of its release, the film is making waves in India.

The iconic fight scene has made its way to an exam paper at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Varanasi. In a now-viral photo, the question paper featured a 10-mark question based on Endgame’s striking fight scene. The question asked students to apply engineering principles to the scene where Captain America proves himself worthy of wielding Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir.

“What is the stress at the handle of the hammer, which has a diameter of 5/8 inch?”, the question paper read. It further asked students to calculate the strains on Mjolnir’s hammerhead and handle as it moves from an elastic to a plastic zone after striking Thanos.

Students had to also calculate the “recovering strain and remaining plastic strain” when Captain America called the hammer back after the strike.

Many users reacted to the viral post with one wishing his professors to be as “cool” as the professors now. “Wish my profs were this cool during my IIT BHU days,” he wrote. Another user commented, “No way. Captain himself hasn’t calculated his throw. Neither thanos for taking the hit. Btw I appreciate the work.”

“That’s so cool. They never made such papers when I was there,” a third user reacted.
