Actress Renuka Shahane, who is popular for her roles in movies like ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun…!’ and ‘Dil Ne Jise Apna Kahaa’ as well as her stints in prime time TV shows such as ‘Surabhi’ and ‘Circus’, took a backseat for a while, but she soon came into the limelight in 2016, with her thought-provoking words on socially relevant causes. It all started when she added a pinch of sarcasm to her post after Salman Khan’s acquittal in the black buck case.
No sooner did the post go viral, Shahane reinvented her image as a strong social media crusader by jotting down her thoughts with a dash of humour and a pinch of sarcasm. From voicing her opinion on Indo-Pak relations to calling out Vijay Mallya or just sending out the message of unity during Mumbai rains — she grabbed many eyeballs and won many hearts.
As Shahane celebrates her birthday on October 7 this year, here’s a recollection of some of her best Facebook posts. The actress, who turned 52, also shared an endearing collage of her childhood snapshot along with a recent picture on the networking website. “Time has wings doesn’t it?” she captioned it.
Here’s the adorable post on Facebook, that has garnered more than 4,500 likes so far.

Ryan International School murder
Evidently disturbed and shocked, Shahane, also a mother, asked — “How do we make things safe for our kids?” She numbered down all the discrepancies and security lapses on the part of the school which resulted in this horrific incident. She went on to suggest what as parents and responsible citizens they could do to avoid such mishaps in the future while also emphasising about the emotional and mental repercussions of child sexual abuse.

Mumbai rains
While torrential rains disrupted life in Mumbai and brought the city to a standstill on August 29, the nation saw hundreds of people uniting against the disaster and joining hands to save each other — without caring about religion, caste or creed. And that somehow became the lesson of nature to people. Expressing her feelings about the same, Renuka Shahane wrote a heartfelt post on Facebook explaining how “nature teaches us time and again that all these divisions are useless.”

‘Not In My Name’ protest
A 16-year-old boy named Junaid Khan was brutally stabbed to death on a train by a mob of cruel, bloodthirsty individuals while returning from Delhi along with his two brothers after Eid shopping. The shocking incident left many baffled. In the wake of the protests, Renuka Shahane, who is popular for her strong opinions on social media, also posted a long message on Facebook. Stressing on the fact that “innocence dies when hate rules”, she expressed her thoughts in a powerful post.
The ‘kingfisher’ chatter for Vijay Mallya
Shedding light on how Mallya’s business anomalies have turned into a bane for the poor, here’s what she wrote in the voice of the bright-winged bird. Calling him “the king of good times NOT”, she directed her satire at business tycoon Vijay Mallya, who is the owner of the now defunct Kingfisher airlines. Without a trace of his name in her post, she cleverly slammed him right in the face.

A conversation with a journalist
What’s the first thing a journalist is expected to do before deciding to interview a well-known personality, picking up the phone and calling them? READ about them, what they’ve done, maybe even compile a questionnaire. But this journalist, as Renuka writes, didn’t do his/her homework as a result of which, she found out she was in serials where she never was and why she should sharpen her drawing pencils when attending phone calls. Need clarity? Check out this conversation that happened between the actor and her interviewer.
