A heartwarming video has been winning hearts, capturing the magic of an old handwritten love letter, and stirring a wave of nostalgia on social media. An ex-Army officer shared a video of a decades-old handwritten love letter and his struggle to get his hands on the letter.

Shared by Captain Dharmveer Singh on Instagram, the now-viral video features a letter dated 10 December 2001, written days after he began his training at the Officers Training Academy in Chennai. The letter came from his then-girlfriend, now wife, lovingly referred to as Thakurain.

Captain Singh further recalled how incoming cadets had to “earn” their mail by doing push-ups before receiving it from their seniors. “Anywhere between 100 and 500,” he said. “The longer the letter, the tougher the penalty.” In this case, the letter’s heartfelt length cost him 500 push-ups.

The video amassed over a million views, resonating with several social media users who recalled the “golden days” of handwritten letters. “The way she wrote “i hate the thought of you being punished for my letters” is so cute,” a user wrote. “This letter not only carries the words but also love, emotions, every single moment about your thoughts for eachother, your smile, and uncountable stories that you made or expected to make , thank you everyone not only soldiers but their families too,” another user commented.

“Wow, the way it is written to the corner of the page. People had to write so many things in those pieces of paper , they valued each word and how it is being conveyed,” a third user reacted.

India Post couldn’t resist reacting to the video. “Isn’t it amazing how an old letter can still speak? That’s why some bonds remain forever in letters,” the official handle wrote.
