Delhi’s air quality has plummeted to hazardous levels, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) fluctuating between 300 and 400 in many areas, making it difficult for residents to breathe. A dense layer of smog now envelops the city, and people are experiencing its negative effects. Experts attribute this situation to a combination of stubble burning, unfavorable weather conditions, and Delhi’s geographical location.
Amid the growing concern, a local resident posted two eye-opening photos on Reddit, capturing the stark difference in the city’s air within just one month. The user, “khanzadaah,” shared images taken from the same spot in Abul Fazal Enclave, Okhla, on September 22 and October 21.
“Both pictures were taken exactly one month apart from the same spot around the same time of the day. Is there seriously no solution to it?” reads the caption, highlighting the severity of the situation. The photos show a view overlooking the Okhla Bird Sanctuary, Yamuna River, and Noida skyline, illustrating just how much the air quality has worsened in a short span.

Redditors quickly chimed in with their thoughts on Delhi’s air quality. One user humorously renamed the city “Asthmaland,” while another joined in, calling it “Asthmabad.” Someone else joked, “Wait a month. You won’t be able to see anything.”
Among the more serious comments, one person expressed concern about the state of the environment, saying, “We really need more green development if we want to survive!”
According to a site that monitors air quality, Delhi’s AQI hit 168 on September 22 and worsened to 287 by October 21. The only break came on September 28, when the AQI dropped to a refreshing 37 – the one-day air quality was rated “good.”
For reference, AQI levels between 0 and 50 are “good,” while anything above 300 is considered “very poor,” and above 450 is considered in the “severe plus,” category.
