A giant crocodile was spotted casually wandering along a lakeside road on IIT Bombay’s Powai campus. The reptile, thought to have come from Powai Lake, was seen resting on the road late Sunday night.
According to a report in TOI, Pawan Sharma, founder and president of the Resqink Association for Wildlife Welfare (RAWW) and honorary wildlife warden, said the crocodile could have been a female looking for a suitable spot to nest and lay eggs.
The now-viral video captures the reptile making its way toward the road, leaving onlookers, including a police officer, shocked.
The Mumbai Range of the Thane Territorial Wing is currently monitoring the area. Authorities have advised the public to remain calm, stay alert, and avoid areas where crocodiles are commonly seen.

The video quickly went viral across all social media platforms, prompting a range of reactions. While a section of users found the video amusing, others raised safety concerns. “Bro came to take his degree,” a user wrote. “Safety concerns for the crocodile for sure. I hope that baby’s safe,” another user commented.
“What do you expect when you have an IIT near a National Park,” a third user said.
In September last year, a nine-foot-long crocodile was spotted inside the premises of a housing society in Mulund West. According to TOI, the female Indian Marsh crocodile was safely rescued by a wildlife welfare group.
