An Australian man’s lighthearted video about the cultural shifts he’s embraced while dating an Indian woman has struck a chord online. The clip, titled “5 things I can’t do in front of my Indian girlfriend,” captures how everyday habits have changed since he started dating his “desi” partner.

In the video, he explains how he now avoids dropping a book without apologising to it, never addresses her parents by their first names, refrains from eating with his left hand, accepts that being late is almost expected at social gatherings, and mostly uses his phone to learn Hindi. The post was captioned, “Top 5 lessons for any gora dating a desi girl.”

What really won people over, however, was the Australian’s surprisingly fluent Hindi. The video, which has already racked up over nine lakh views, has social media users showering him with praise and amusement.

Watch the video:

“Can we take a moment to appreciate the way you spoke Hindi? Diction and pronunciation on point. Wah wah,” one viewer commented. Another wrote, “Also, are u a doctor or engineer? Indian parents give bonus points for that bro!”

Others chimed in with their own experiences, “My German husband also takes care of how he keeps his shoes,” wrote one user. Another shared a more thoughtful perspective: “Never forget to ask for forgiveness from people the same way we do for everything touched by our feet… In every object and being resides divinity, so let humility and respect cleanse what our touch cannot.”

The charming cross-cultural insight, mixed with humour and genuine respect, has clearly struck the right balance, and the Internet can’t get enough of it.
