Billionaire Anand Mahindra has shared online a video that showed how two men turned a sofa into a vehicle. If a country has to become a giant in automobiles, it needs many such “garage” inventors, he wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
The video, originally posted by Fossbytes, said that one Mekdev made a drivable sofa using 3D modelling and basic equipment. He bought a basic sofa from IKEA for 2,995 Swedish kronor (approximately Rs 24,000) and took it to the extreme using his incredible skills. The motorised sofa uses a Briggs & Stratton 9 HP engine, which drives the rear axle. It was an extensive DIY experiment in which the majority of the items were self-fabricated.

“Innovative. Not just the RTO inspector, transport ministry will jump and ask where the seat belt is, helmet, safety, etc,” an X user posted. “It also requires money! I think industrialists like you need to setup a fund, which could be tapped for such innovation. While most, companies say they do, honestly no one really does anything on the ground,” said another.
“After sofa-cum-bed presenting, sofa-cum-car,” another netizen wrote. “Automobile innovation is fueled by the relentless pursuit of passionate engineers, whose garage projects often lay the foundation for a country’s advancement in the industry. The ingenuity and dedication behind such efforts are what drive us forward,” yet another user commented.
