Following President-elect Donald Trump’s announcement of biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy and Elon Musk as co-leaders of the newly created Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a video of Ramaswamy’s high school graduation speech has gone viral.

The video from 2003 shows Ramaswamy, then 18, addressing his graduating class, teachers, and guests at Ohio’s St. Xavier High School. In the speech, he candidly reflects on his experience at the school. “How am I supposed to feel right now?” Ramaswamy says, processing his final moments there.

Sharing the nostalgic clip on X, Ramaswamy said, “I was against bureaucracy back then too,” signing off with a laughing emoji, showing that his scepticism of red tape dates back much further than his recent political endeavours.

One user commented, “This was one of the most impressive speeches i ever watched from a 18 y/o – your track record proves you walk the walk, not just talk the talk.”

Another individual said, “You were a very eloquent 18 year old with lots of potential! And, you realized your potential!!!”

A third user commented, “Most people wouldn’t be able to speak confidently in front of a large audience at that age, but he’s got that natural confidence and sharp oratory skills. No wonder he’s done so well!”

X user @GabbbarSingh shared the clip of Ramaswamy’s speech and wrote, “An 18-year-old Vivek Ramaswamy. Look at the poise, articulation and confidence. I think this is what an IB education should yield. In my time most of us kids were preparing for Backend jobs.”

On Truth Social, Donald Trump announced that Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy will jointly lead DOGE. In his statement, Trump referred to Musk as “the Great Elon Musk” and hailed Ramaswamy as an “American Patriot,” saying that together, they will work to overhaul the government’s bureaucratic system, cut unnecessary regulations, eliminate waste, and drive major reforms.
