The Marvel Universe has some of the biggest fandoms in the world. The numerous comics and movie franchises account for millions of fans across the globe. Rick Scolamiero from Canada and Ryan Logsdon from the USA also belong to the Marvel fandom. Both of them have 34 Marvel-related tattoos covering their whole bodies.
What makes their record interesting is that Rick and Ryan are strangers. As per the Guinness World Records, Rick had initially set this record back in 2018 with 31 Marvel tattoos. Over the years, he got three more tattoos and informed the record-verifying agency. Around the same time, Ryan applied for the record with 34 tattoos. This strange coincidence meant that both fans got the record for having “most Marvel comic book characters tattooed onto the body” on May 26.
Rick got his first Marvel-themed tattoo, a Spiderman on his left forearm in 2011. Ryan got a Daredevil tattoo in 2009.
In conversation with the Guinness World Records, Ryan admitted that he had spent over $10,000 (approximately Rs 8 lakh) on his tattoos so far. Rick estimates that he has splurged “approximately the same as a nice SUV”.
Talking about the significance of having this Guinness World Records title Rick said, “It is pretty awesome! I didn’t have much growing up, but I had Marvel cards and comics as well as a 1992 Guinness World Records book, so to have a record myself and to be in the 2020 book was pretty surreal. I am proud to hold the record and if it gets beaten again, I will be proud to be a former record holder.”
Ryan said, “I think it’s really cool. This whole thing was born out of love and passion for storytelling and characters, along with the writers/artists that created them. Most of the journey, I had no idea there was a record – I was just wanting hero and villain sleeves. It feels really cool to achieve a goal that I had and it would be great to meet Rick – I’m sure we’d have a bunch to talk about.”
