As rescue operations continue in Myanmar, the death toll from the 7.7 magnitude earthquake has risen to 2,056, according to the BBC. While videos of the devastating tremors, which caused buildings, roads, and infrastructure to collapse, have emerged, a heartwarming video of nurses protecting newborns at a hospital during the quake is capturing hearts on social media.
The now-viral CCTV footage from a maternity unit in Ruili, a Chinese city near Myanmar’s border, shows a nurse kneeling to shield an infant while another nurse holds onto other babies in their cots. The nurses and the newborns escaped unharmed during the earthquake, BBC reported. As the video progresses, the tremors intensify, violently shaking the cots with newborns sleeping in them. Sharing the video, Daily Mail wrote, “A great example of humanity and true professionalism.”

The video ignited an array of reactions, with several users lauding the nurses for shielding the newborns. “Hero’s in my eyes,” a user wrote. “Women can handle anything,” another user commented.
“The REAL HEROES. Humanity Restored. They should be given Rewards from this. Directly from the president,” a third user reacted.
Meanwhile, on Monday, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) recovered seven bodies from buildings collapsed by the earthquake in Myanmar’s Mandalay region. The Indian team, responsible for carrying out relief and rescue operations in about twelve structures, has been working within Sector D of Mandalay City, Myanmar’s second-largest urban area.
The NDRF arrived in Myanmar on Saturday as part of India’s humanitarian mission, Operation Brahma, to swiftly recover bodies to prevent the spread of disease from decaying remains.
