MrBeast, aka Jimmy Donaldson, embarked on an extraordinary adventure and spent 100 hours inside the Great Pyramids of Giza in Egypt, and shared a video documenting it on YouTube. During his exclusive visit, he explored areas off-limits to the general public, including the mysterious Tomb of Osiris. The YouTuber also planted 10,000 dollars (more than Rs 8 lakh) worth of gold inside the Sphinx, the structure which is believed to have a hidden temple “filled with gold”.
In a statement, Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities clarified that MrBeast did not pay to privately rent the Pyramids, and he was granted special permission to film during non-operating hours.
MrBeast begins with exploring the Tomb of Osiris, one of the most captivating features of the Great Pyramids, which remains partially submerged due to rising water levels and geological shifts over time. The YouTuber, along with his fellow creators, attempts to dive into the underworld. However, the group fails to uncover it and returns to their base camp.
As the episode progresses, MrBeast sets on the journey to find the hidden temple inside the Sphinx. Squeezing himself into the structure through a narrow hole-like entry, the YouTuber manages to make an entry with Dr Zahi Hawaa, the Egyptian archaeologist and plants a rare gold swarm with a handwritten letter.
“Uh…Zahi, I just see an empty hole,” he said, adding, “there is nothing inside the Sphinx.”
The group further explores the Tomb of Iymery, “one of the places that is completely illegal for people to go in.”
