Guinness Book Of World Records has always had interesting and quirky items in its list – from ‘Largest bubblegum bubble blown’ to ‘Widest mouth – unstretched’! Narendra Modi’s famous monogrammed pinstripes suit of Rs 15 lakh (approx) finds a respected spot on the list.

The most expensive suit sold at auction
Yes, the famous Modi suit is the most expensive suit in the world. The suit which hit headlines and created much controversies was sold at an auction for Rs 4.31 crore and was bought by Laljibhai Tulsibai Patel, a Surat-based businessman on February 20, 2015. The suit that had ‘Narendra Damodardas Modi’ monogrammed as pinstripes on it, was worn by PM Modi during his meeting with US President Barack Obama. The amount raised at the auction was donated to the cause of Clean Ganga project.

The most expensive glove
The most expensive glove sold at auction was sold for Rs 2.8 crore and was bought by China’s Ponte 16 Resort in New York in 2009. The glove belonged to Michael Jackson and is now on display at the MJ Gallery at Ponte 16 in Macau, China. The auction was conducted by Julien’s Auctions (USA) at the Hard Rock Cafe at Times Square in Manhattan.

The most expensive dress sold at auction
The ivory rayon-acetate dress worn by Marilyn Monroe in ‘The Seven Year Itch’ raised Rs 30 crore at an auction held at The Paley Center for Media in Los Angeles in 2011. The dress – which, in the movie, famously billows up as Monroe steps over a gusty subway grate – was the highlight in a catalogue of 3,500 pieces of memorabilia auctioned off by the Singin’ in the Rain actress Debbie Reynolds. According to Guinness Book Of World Records, other items auctioned by the actress included a pair of ruby slippers and a dress worn by Judy Garland in screen tests for The Wizard of Oz (USA 1939) and Charlie Chaplin’s bowler hat.

The most expensive costume from a film
Who doesn’t love Audrey Hepburn in ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’? Remember the dress that adorns Hepburn on the film’s poster, yes, that is the most expensive film costume. The black, cocktail dress designed by Hubert de Givenchy and worn by Audrey Hepburn in this 1961 iconic film was sold to an anonymous bidder by author, Dominique Lapierre (France), for his City of Joy Aid charity at Christies, London, for then Rs 6.2 crore in 2006.

The most expensive bra
When it comes to clothing, how on earth would one miss the most expensive inner wear, rather the lingerie. The world’s most expensive bra is the Rs 83 crore Heavenly Star Bra designed by none other than the Victoria’s Secret, created in 2001. It features 1,200 Sri Lankan pink sapphires and as its centerpiece a 90-carat emerald cut diamond worth Rs 7.6 crore. The 2005 Sexy Splendor Fantasy Bra also had a Rs 83 crore selling price, though in comparative terms its value is less than that of the 2001 bra. Both bras were part of the Victoria’s Secret Fantasy Bra line.

The most expensive saree
Last but not the least, saree, an Indian attrire also made it to the list. The world record for most expensive silk saree was sold for Rs 39 lakh in 2008. It was made by Chennai Silks and featured reproductions of eleven paintings by the celebrated artist Raja Ravi Varma. The main image was a reproduction of Varma’s famous ‘Galaxy of Musicians’ took a total of 4760 man-hours. The saree had it all, from gold, diamond, platinum, sapphire, coral to pearls and emeralds.
