Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is a practitioner of the martial art form jiu-jitsu. The 39-year-old, who co-founded Facebook and its parent company Meta, even won two medals in a Brazilian jiu-jitsu tournament held at a Silicon Valley high school in May.
Zuckerberg recently took to Instagram to share his selfie showing bruises on his nose and below the eyes that he attributed to sparring. “Sparring got a little out of hand. May need to update my avatar,” Zuckerberg captioned along with a laughing emoticon. Zuckerberg’s post soon went viral and prompted a lot of comments.

“Jeez dude! Must have been a huge hit,” a user commented. “Might need to keep your hands up Mark,” said another. “Damn! Sorry, man. This picture is about to become a meme on the internet, though,” wrote a third.
In June, Zuckerberg was challenged to a cage fight by fellow billionaire Elon Musk. Tesla and SpaceX co-founder Musk had responded to a tweet with, ““I’m up for a cage match if he is lol” on June 21. Zuckerberg then posted a screenshot of Musk’s tweet with the caption “send me location”.
Both tech moguls had even taken part in training sessions under Lex Fridman, a Russian-American computer scientist and podcaster. In a tweet, Fridman wrote, “I did an impromptu training session with @elonmusk for a few hours yesterday. I’m extremely impressed with his strength, power, and skill, on the feet and on the ground. It was epic. It’s really inspiring to see Elon and Mark doing martial arts, but I think the world is served far better if they train martial arts but not fight in the cage. That said, as Elon says, the most entertaining outcome is the most likely… I’m there for them, no matter what.”
Fridman had also posted a video of training jiu-jitsu with Zuckerberg, who has been training in that martial art form since 2020.
Their feud began over reports about Meta launching a social media app to rival Twitter, now named X, called Threads. Threads was launched on July 5 and within a day garnered 30 million users breaking the previous record of ChatGPT to become the fastest-growing platform in history.
