Man uses AI software to create late father’s voice to surprise mom on ChristmasPhillip Willett’s father passed away from pancreatic cancer one-and-a-half years ago.

It is painful to lose a loved one and no matter how much time passes, it is not easy to move on as their memories keep flooding back, especially during holidays.

In a heartfelt gesture, Phillip Willett, a digital creator, used an artificial intelligence (AI) software to create his late father’s voice to surprise his mother.

Willett posted the video on Instagram on December 21 and it has amassed more than 35,000 views. Willett’s father passed away from pancreatic cancer one-and-a-half years ago. He said he wanted to do something special for his mother for Christmas this year. It had been a long time since they had heard his voice, so he made a video using an AI software to match his exact voice. The result was absolutely amazing, he wrote.

His mother is seen opening the gift wrapper and then she sees a motion book, a photo album that plays videos. As she played it, she was taken by surprise. “Hi honey, I love you. I hear your prayers. I want you to know, you are the best mother to our kids. And you are the strongest woman in the whole world. I am always with you honey,” the voice generated by AI resembling his father said.

Replying to a comment by a user who lost their father and wanted to do something similar, Willett said he used the software ElevenLabs to create the audio clips.

“The motion books did not create this gift. I presented the gift through a motion book (a photo album that plays videos). I used ElevenLabs to create the audio clips, but assembled the entire video myself. I’ll be covering this process, and ElevenLabs software in depth very soon!” he wrote.

“I’m unwell from watching that. But such an amazing and thoughtful gift,” a user wrote. “This is such a thoughtful gift and am currently sobbing,” said another. “I am throwing up crying. Love you guys!!!! This is amazing,” another person posted.
