Months before the devastating wildfires swept through Southern California, podcaster Joe Rogan shared a chilling prediction about such a disaster in a July 2024 episode of his podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience. During a conversation with comedian Sam Morril, Rogan recalled a firefighter’s grim warning about the region’s vulnerability.

The clip from the episode, originally shared by an X handle tupacabra2, and reshared by a handle scubaryan, has gone viral with over seven million views. Sharing the clip, the user wrote, “the California fires were perfectly predicted with insane accuracy by a firefighter that spoke to Joe Rogan.”

The firefighter had painted a stark picture of what could happen under the right conditions. “One day, it’s going to be the right wind, and fire is going to start in the right place, and it’s going to burn through LA all the way to the ocean,” Rogan said.

Wearing a Los Angeles Fire Department T-shirt, Rogan elaborated on the firefighter’s insights, stressing on the sheer scale of such an event. “These fires are so big; you’re talking about thousands of acres burning at once, driven by 40 mph winds. Once it starts, it spreads so quickly there’s nothing anyone can do,” he said in the episode.

Many users reacted to the video on X. One wrote, “California has always had this problem.”

“Why did nobody prepare for this scenario?” another X user wrote.

The wildfires, including the Palisades Fire in the west and the Eaton Fire in the east, have prompted urgent evacuations and wreaked havoc across Los Angeles County, with several homes destroyed.

As reported by CNN, at least 10 lives have been lost, though authorities warn that the full scale of the damage and fatalities may not be clear until it’s safe for investigators to reach the affected areas. Tens of thousands of residents have been forced to evacuate.
