‘Get a deodorant first’: Indian-origin blogger lists ‘weird’ comments made by ‘white’ Canadians

In her post, Shikha noted that while Canadians are typically polite face-to-face, many don’t shy away from posting cruel remarks online. “Glad they leave these comments only on social media. Face to face they are so sweet,” she wrote, before listing the slurs: “‘Get a deodorant first’, ‘Go back’, ‘We don’t need you’, ‘Go to Tim Hortons, you will feel like home’, ‘You find a food bank to eat’, ‘You guys stink’, ‘Pajeets’, ‘Go back to your own country’, ‘Why move where everybody hates you’, ‘Crush cockroach’ gifs, ‘Most important is go the f*** back home’, ‘Deport these freeloading creatures’.”

“Should I share more? I mean, why? Also, I am dancing and happy and doing what I want on my social media—these mean faceless comments can’t dishearten me,” she wrote.

However, the post received mixed reactions with several social media users disagreeing with Shikha. “I really contradict. Real life experience has been really sweet 99% of the time. I live in BC, Langley and people are really well behaved and cultured. Why bother about 1% ? Your post sounds like an intention to get more attention and views,” a user said. “It’s good to know that these comments doesn’t dishearten you. You go girl, you are doing great, this country doesn’t even belong to them. So, chill and enjoy,” another user commented.

“Uhhh! Have been living in Canada from last 14 years. Never in my life heard of anything like this. Please stop spreading hatred/negativity about Canada,” a third user wrote.
