Canadian singer-songwriter Sinéad O’Connor has converted to Islam and changed her name to Shuhada' Davitt. The 51-year-old took to Twitter to make the announcement of her conversion. "This is to announce that I am proud to have become a Muslim. This is the natural conclusion of any intelligent theologian’s journey. All scripture study leads to Islam. Which makes all other scriptures redundant. I will be given (another) new name. It will be Shuhada’," she tweeted. Since her conversion, O’Connor has haring several posts and pictures about her new faith. O'Connor is known for her singing success in 1990 with her cover 'Nothing Compares 2 U', written by the late Prince. In 1999, Davitt was ordained as a priest by the Irish Orthodox Catholic and Apostolic Church - a group officially not affiliated with the Catholic church, that does not allow the ordination of women as priests, the Guardian reported. She had become "disillusioned with Catholicism" by the child abuse scandals in the church that had erupted, the same report stated. This is to announce that I am proud to have become a Muslim. When I’ve practiced it 30 times i’m Gonna make the world stop turning." Sorry re all the mistakes in my Azan.. 1st attempt. However, many wondered why the singer had to change her name, as the religion didn't demand so. Dear S. Davitt, I'm happy you've found the truth that will hopefully bring peace to you. Incidentally I think it's better that you don't change your name. Being a Muslim doesn't require getting an Arabic name. Peace be upon you — Ismail Kurun (@ismailkurun_) October 26, 2018 Your graciously welcome, may Allah make steadfastness. — sayed javeed (@javeed571) October 26, 2018 MashAllah sister. Allah has guided you towards the light and we wish you a great post Emaan life. — ☘Syed JAFFER 🇮🇳 (@absoluteJAFFER) October 26, 2018 Congratulations, sister! May God always be your guide throughout all your paths in life. — Atenhotep (@Atenhotep74) October 26, 2018 Alhamdulillah wa Allahu akbar ! Welcome Home dear sister . — Aicha Amanah (@AichaAmanah) October 26, 2018 However, many slammed the singer for mocking other religions in her tweet. I love when irrelevant people insult entire groups of other people with the announcement of their conversion. "Natural conclusion of any intelligent theologian," thereby any theologian not Muslim is unintelligent. But like I said, you're irrelevant to most of the world. — Jester__916 (@Jester__916) October 26, 2018 To every mother, her baby is the most beautiful thing in the whole planet. But a sensible mother would never say that out loud out of respect for other mothers. — குட்டிச்சாத்தான் (@KuttiChaathaan) October 26, 2018 I’ve known many, many “intelligent theologians,” and the idea that *any* religion represents a “natural conclusion” to a sprirtual journey is one they (& I) find entirely risible. I’m glad you’re happy, but don’t assume everyone will reach the same conclusion. — Bufkinite (@Bufkinite) October 26, 2018
