‘Nothing is too raw to eat in India’: Foreign couple’s take on desi ingenuity in Indian kitchen goes viral
Guru and Lila, who run the page ‘Life in India with Guru and Lila’, recently shared a video marvelling at the way unripe and unusual ingredients are not only accepted but celebrated in Indian kitchens.

A foreign couple living in India has won hearts on Instagram with a fresh perspective on Indian food, especially its use of raw and green ingredients. Guru and Lila, who run the page ‘Life in India with Guru and Lila’, recently shared a video expressing their fascination with how Indian cuisine embraces what many might consider “too raw” to eat.
In their post, Guru marvelled at the way unripe and unusual ingredients are not only accepted but celebrated in Indian kitchens. From tangy green mangoes being turned into pickles to tender green jackfruit cooked into hearty sabzis, to pumpkin flowers being made into a crispy snack, he was clearly in awe. “There is no such thing as too raw to eat in India. When it is a flower, you can make pakora. When it is raw, cook in sabji. When it is ripe, eat as it is. That’s so amazing,” they wrote in the caption — a sentiment that resonated with thousands.
The video quickly went viral, drawing praise and surprise from both Indians and international viewers alike.

One Indian user commented, “As an Indian even I get amazed sometimes. One always discovers a new kinda sabji at some corner of this country.” Another chimed in with, “Yes, we are very good at making something out of anything.”
A third added with a touch of pride, “Wait until you find out that India has the most vegetarian dishes, and all are not processed like cheese burgers.” And a fourth joked, “We make sabji of peels too! India is not for beginners!”
Their Instagram bio perfectly sums up their content: “In India from POV you’ve never seen.” And clearly, it’s a view that many are enjoying.
