Doppelganger alert! When Taylor Swift met her Australian lookalike

It’s actually #noitsliv, aka Olivia Sturgiss — a 19-year-old Taylor Swift fan from Australia, who bears a striking resemblance to the 25-year-old singer. She also happens to be her ‘big, big fan’. So, you can imagine her surprise when she got the opportunity to finally meet her in person at the fifth Taylor Swift concert Olivia attended.

Olivia and her friend Kristy Lee were hand-picked from the crowd to meet Swift backstage at her Melbourne concert Dec. 11, 2015. Most people freeze, get tongue tied, get emotional and even faint upon meeting their favourite celebrity, but the first thing thought that crossed Olivia’s mind upon meeting her favourite singer, though, was quite hilarious: “She was actually shorter than me.” Swift mirrored her sentiment. She said, “‘Oh my god you’re so tall. Usually I’d be wearing heels but I’ve got a bad ankle’,” Olivia recounted.

The singer and the Australian are bound by more than mutual looks. Taylor Swift discovered Olivia Sturgiss on the blogging platform Tumblr. Kristy Lee shares on Daily Mail Australia, “‘I found you on Tumblr and remember saying “wow you look like me”‘, and then Liv lost her mum earlier this year and she (Swift) said she saw the Tumblr post and both of us were trying not to cry.”

Olivia told the same newspaper, “The same week she announced her mum was diagnosed with cancer was the same week my mum was diagnosed with cancer so I think maybe it hit her close to home.” Olivia’s mother succumbed to uterine cancer this October, but not before promising her she would meet the singer. Taylor Swift’s own mother was diagnosed with cancer in April this year.

Understandably, Sturgiss is mistaken for Taylor Swift on the streets of Melbourne. She underwent a makeover that made her looks completely indistinguishable from that of Taylor’s. She coloured her gingery brown hair to blonde and chopped it to match Taylor’s cropped above-the-shoulder look. She even sported Taylor’s signature scarlet lipstick in her Instagram selfies. “I got my hair cut consciously like hers, but everything else is just sort of coincidental,” Olivia said. “I think it’s just the facial structure. I’ve got small eyes and bigger lips like her,’ she added. “Sometimes I won’t wear makeup at all and still get told I look like her.”

Meeting Taylor is surely a moment Olivia will cherish forever, the joy of the experience she would like to extend to other star-crazed fans. She is often asked to pose for selfies by Taylor Swift fans on the street, something she doesn’t really mind. “The little, little girls who think I’m Taylor, I look at their mums and their mums know. So I’m like I’ll let their mums tell them, I don’t have the heart to tell them,” Olivia explained, touched she has been able to give other fans a real fun reason to shake it off.
