A nighttime drone and fireworks show in China took a terrifying turn when several drones malfunctioned mid-air, triggering a fire that sent crowds running for safety. The incident occurred on October 2 during a large-scale performance titled 'October: The Sound of Blooming Flowers' in Liuyang, Hunan province. According to The Sun, the show was held at the Sky Theatre, which is popular for its 3D visual spectacles over land and water. The mishap sparked mass panic as spectators rushed to live, and some used chairs to shield themselves from falling debris, the report said. Dramatic videos from the event quickly went viral across social media platforms, showing flames and burning fragments of multiple unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) descending from the night sky while terrified spectators fled the scene. "This is quite dangerous . It can also be fatal," a user wrote. "Frankly survival rate in this case is better compared to billboards & lic boards falling on people," another user commented. "What stupidity. These kind of fireworks over people heads are too risky. Should be done over water bodies so that fire is doused immediately," a third user reacted. Local officials believe the weather may have triggered the incident. Representatives from the Liuyang Bureau of Culture and Tourism suggested that “unusually dry weather conditions may have contributed to the malfunction," The Sun reported. In response to the emergency, authorities set up a one-mile evacuation zone around the area. No injuries were reported, though emergency crews, including additional firefighting units, were deployed as a precaution. Liuyang is renowned for its pyrotechnic displays and draws massive crowds throughout the year. Earlier in January, more than 1,60,000 visitors reportedly travelled to the city for New Year’s celebrations.
