The “boiling water to ice challenge” is a viral trend that involves people throwing boiling water into the air during freezing temperatures. The intense cold causes the water to vaporise rapidly, quickly turning into a cloud of ice crystals. This visually striking trend has gained widespread popularity on social media platforms. However, the trend can be fatal and can cause serious injuries.
A woman recently suffered second-degree burns after the viral trend failed miserably. Sharing a video of the incident, Daily Star reported that the woman ended up at a hospital. “The woman ended up going to hospital to treat the burns,” the caption on the video read.
The video shows an ice-covered outdoor scene. Soon after, the woman enters the frame, holding a kettle. She strikes a pose for the camera before attempting the viral trend. However, instead of the boiling water turning into mist, some splashes back onto her. She falls to the ground in evident pain.

Several users criticised the woman, with one commenting, “The main reason behind this disaster is, she used the water boiler which has a wider opening as we can see. Others used flask, whose mouth is narrow.” Another user wrote, “Omg what a Silly silly. Person.”
“Why would you try it again? Once is a mistake. Twice is just plain stupidity!!” another user reacted.
According to a report in Newsweek, several people were hospitalised during the 2019 winter in Canada. Arthur Sanford, a burn surgeon at Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago, shared that he had seen seven patients with blistering burns, one of whom was only three years old.
