East Berlin, once the behind-the-curtain star, clings to its history with a whopping 40,000 sodium-vapour lamps. The orange and yellow lights throw a curveball at colour vision in the dark.

On the flip side, West Berlin has amped up their lighting game with mercury-vapour, fluorescent, and LED lamps, casting a contemporary, white spell on the streets.
