India’s top 10 most-visited monuments in 2024-25: India, a preferred destination for travellers from around the world, experienced a significant increase in both foreign tourist arrivals (FTAs) and domestic tourist visits (DTVs) in 2024-25, recording approximately 56 lakh and 303.59 crore tourists, respectively, according to government data.

Among 145 Centrally Protected Ticketed Monuments of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), the Taj Mahal in Agra is the most visited monument by both domestic and foreign tourists in 2024.

According to the data from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in the India Tourism Data Compendium 2025 by the Ministry of Tourism, 6.26 million domestic tourists and 0.65 million foreigners visited the monument in 2024.

Qutub Minar in Delhi, which witnessed 3.20 million domestic and 0.22 million tourist visitors in 2024, is ranked third.

Sun Temple in Odisha’s Konark is in the second spot in terms of domestic tourists, while Agra Fort is ranked second in terms of foreign tourists.

Known for its rich heritage and architectural marvels, India is home to 44 UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

While its iconic heritage monuments attract tourists from around the world, the overall growth rate of visitors saw a modest rise of 1.75 per cent in FY 2024-25, the data says.

While the momentum remained positive, the annual growth of visitors in these monuments peaked at 92.8 per cent and 88.6 per cent in 2021-22 and 2022-23, respectively, recovering from a steep decline of 70.7 per cent during the pandemic (2020-21).
