Top 10 most and least expensive passports globally in 2024: In today’s interconnected globalized world, the majority of individuals who have gone overseas have—or have previously had—a passport.

A passport is an essential travel document that provides information about your nationality, serves as a form of identification, and facilitates verification when travelling abroad.

While most governments issue their passports (except autonomous territories and countries such as Gibraltar or Greenland), people can apply for passports—usually at a fee.

The passport’s cost depends on where you reside, and while passports allow for global travel, the cost of this crucial identity document varies greatly between countries.

Notably, Mexico has the most expensive passports globally, as per the report by Compare The Market, costing USD 230.85 (INR 19481.75), while its six-year and three-year passports are the fourth and ninth most expensive, respectively.

On the contrary, European nations like Hungary and Spain, followed by African countries like Kenya and South Africa, have the world’s cheapest passports.

It’s interesting to note that the Indian passport has the best value in terms of ‘cost per year,’ while Spain’s passport for citizens aged 30 and older also offers great value as it’s one of the most powerful passports in the world with visa-free access to 194 countries.
