
Opera is the latest contender in the generative AI game after its parent company Kunlun Tech on Wednesday announced its plans to integrate ChatGPT into its product. The feature will roll out on both the PC and mobile version of the mobile browsers, the company wrote in a blog post. It is testing a new “Shorten” button in the address bar. This will use the power of artificial intelligence to “generate short summaries of any webpage or article.”
In a blog post, the company notes that it plans to “add popular AI-generated content services to the browser sidebar.” The company will also boost the “browsing experience with new features that will interact with these new generative-AI-powered capabilities.”
According to Opera, the generative AI feature will help ensure that users can deal with the flood of information on the internet as the summary feature can make it easier for users who don’t wish to read the entire web page. However, Opera has not specified the timeframe as to when it will make this feature available to all users.
Opera won’t be the only one to integrate AI chatbot tech into a browser. Microsoft recently announced that its Edge browser and Bing search engine will soon benefit from AI and offer new ways to experience the internet. Meanwhile, Google is taking on Microsoft and OpenAI with its own artificial intelligence chatbot, Bard, although that didn’t fully pan out the way Google had hoped. Google’s parent Alphabet Inc lost $100 billion in value after Bard gave inaccurate information in a promotional tweet.
