Twitter made the announcement in a tweet detailing an improved version of TweetDeck with new features. (Image Source: Pixabay) Twitter users will soon be unable to use TweetDeck if they are not verified, the social media company said, amongst a slew of other announcements on Tuesday.
The big point: “In 30 days, users must be Verified to access TweetDeck,” Twitter said in a post. Charging for verification to access TweetDeck – a tool that is widely used by news organisations, journalists, and businesses to monitor content on the platform – is likely to provide a boost to the company’s revenue.
The details: Twitter launched a “new, improved version” of TweetDeck globally on Tuesday. “TweetDeck now supports full composer functionality, Spaces, video docking, polls, and more… We’re also introducing Decks—a new way to group columns into clean workspaces,” the announcement read. The added features include a tweet composer, advanced search features, and new column types.
FYI: In India, Twitter Blue, which includes the verified badge, costs Rs 650 for web users and Rs 900 for mobile devices. Organisations, however, have to pay Rs 82,300 a month — much steeper price than individuals.
What else you should know: The changes come days after Twitter owner Elon Musk announced that users of the platform will now be able to see only a limited number of tweets per day.
“To address extreme levels of data scraping & system manipulation, we’ve applied the following temporary limits: – Verified accounts are limited to reading 6000 posts/day – Unverified accounts to 600 posts/day – New unverified accounts to 300/day,” Musk tweeted. “Now to 10k, 1k & 0.5k,” he later said.
Meanwhile: Amid the several changes to Twitter since Musk’s takeover in October 2022, Facebook’s parent company Meta is set to introduce a rival to the micro-blogging platform. The new app, Threads, will be released on July 6 and will be linked to Instagram. Meta has described Threads as a “text based conversation app.”
