Meta is hopping on the generative AI bandwagon by unleashing its new AI chatbot across various platforms, including WhatsApp. Dubbed the “Meta AI chatbot,” this nifty tool is basically Meta’s answer to the ChatGPT craze that’s been sweeping the tech world.

So, what exactly can this Meta AI chatbot do? Well, it can answer questions on virtually any topic, whipping up written content from scratch, churning out AI-generated images, and even tackling language translation tasks.

The rollout has already commenced, with select users in India posting on X about the arrival of the feature. Those lucky few can now harness the power of generative AI, courtesy of Meta’s Llama model, right within their WhatsApp chats.

How to use Meta AI on WhatsApp

If you’re part of the chosen few with early access, here’s how you can summon the Meta AI chatbot within WhatsApp:

First things first, make sure you’ve updated to the latest version of the WhatsApp app on your smartphone.

Next, simply open up a WhatsApp group chat, type “@” in the message field, and tap on “Meta AI.” If you don’t see the option, you likely don’t have access.

Once that’s done, you can start firing away your prompts or questions at the chatbot. Just type them out and hit send. The AI will then work its magic and display the response right there in the chat.

To keep the conversation going, simply swipe right on the AI’s message bubble, type out your follow-up, and send it off.

It’s worth noting that for now, Meta AI only understands and responds in English. Additionally, it can solely read and reply to messages that directly mention “@Meta AI.”

Of course, as stated above, very few users are seeing access to the AI chatbot at the moment. You will likely have far better chances of seeing it on the beta builds but even then it’s not guaranteed.
