Google staff jailed!

Italian judge says profit behind Google verdict.

Google’s omnipresent status has ensured that it faces a huge number of piquant situations, where it is blamed for putting the profit motive before individual’s safety.

A Milan judge says he convicted three Google employees of violating the privacy of an autistic teen because the Internet giant sought profit when it hosted an online video of him being bullied.

Judge Oscar Magi detailed his February verdict in a 111-page document.

Italian law requires a finding of malicious intent in such a conviction. Magi said he believes Google acted with malice because it clearly intended to profit by selling advertising on the video site where the footage was posted.

The three employees were given suspended six-month sentences in a verdict that drew swift condemnation from defenders of Internet freedom. Google said it was studying the decision.
