SHARP QNET Zensational Air Purifier review: Go beyond pollution with device intelligence
The intelligent mode is the best aspect of the SHARP QNET Zensational air purifier, as a result of which it treats the air depending on the pollutant or contaminant in the air.

Every year around Diwali, I start getting enquiries about air purifier reviews. This is also when friends and colleagues ask me to recommend an air purifier for their homes. It is really a sad situation that all of us in the north of India have normalised a public health disaster. But most of us have no option but to stay on and toil in air that, for a few months a year, looks like it’s coming out of a machine. The only respite, at least psychologically, is to get an air purifier that makes it breathable at least indoors. The SHARP QNET Zensational air purifier is one such device.
The SHARP QNET Zensational air purifier has a tower design that will blend well with your room’s aesthetics without sticking out. There is a vent on top that opens when you switch on the machine and an LED screen up front where you can see some data. The filters are on the rear and are easy to install and clean. On the side, there is a detachable 3-litre water tank which the device uses to humidify the room.

This air purifier has no remote, but there is a range of buttons on top. These can be a bit confusing, so it is better to just use the intelligent mode—a setting that automatically adjusts the purifier based on the environment—so that the device will do the heavy lifting as needed. There are also modes for haze and sleep, while you can adjust the power to three levels as needed. Plus, you can switch on the humidifier too, which uses the water you added in the tank to keep moisture levels in your room perfect.
What differentiates the SHARP air purifier is its plasmacluster technology that removes mold and viruses in the air. There is a Spot mode button that specifically activates this mode. So, this is actually an air treatment device more than an air purifier.
I have to agree, this is the quietest air purifier I have ever reviewed. In the intelligent mode, after a few minutes, the device becomes so quiet that you have to check if it is even on. The air purifier is smart with six sensors that can detect dust, odor, temperature, humidity, light, and motion. In intelligent mode, the air purifier understands the air quality in the room using the sensors and tackles it as needed.
Interestingly, the air purifier switches off its display if you turn off the light in the room. As a result, the LED of the device does not brighten up during the run at night. And if you get up from bed, the motion detector switches on the LED on its own. Very thoughtful, as you would expect from a Japanese company.
The purifier is good for large rooms and can even be considered for living rooms and conference rooms in offices. (Image: Nandagopal Rajan/The Indian Express)
For the past week, I have been running the air purifier in my bedroom. And while I know the intelligent mode means I don’t need to worry about which mode to use, the LED display does not show the AQI levels I am used to seeing on other devices. In fact, the purifier shows the Watt at which the device is running, the temperature in the room, and humidity levels. But if there is haze or PM 2.5, you have indicators for those, without any count. If the air quality is bad, the device’s LED indicator shows it with colour coding that ranges between blue and red.

The purifier is good for large rooms and can even be considered for living rooms and conference rooms in offices. Because this has wheels below, it is east to move it around the house. Another aspect that is noteworthy is that for most of the time you will see the purifier use just 5 Watts, suggesting the running cost will be low even if you keep it on for the entire pollution season.
The SHARP QNET Zensational air purifier is good for homes with small children who you want to give a better environment than what we are actually creating in the real world. For me, the only issue with the device is the fact that I can’t see the AQI levels going down as I am used to with purifiers over the past decade. But I am also aware that is just a perception. It is better to invest in a device that you know works and does not have to be monitored all the time.
The intelligent mode is the best aspect of the SHARP QNET Zensational air purifier, as a result of which it treats the air depending on the pollutant or contaminant in the air. Buying this device just for PM 2.5 might be a bit of an overkill, especially given the price. So get this if you have been thinking of a humidifier too, especially for the winter.
