The keyboard stands out with its wave like formfactor (Image credit: Nandagopal Rajan/The Indian Express)
It is common for people who work long hours on computers to suffer from discomfort, stiffness and pain across their arms and wrists. Even as extreme cases prompt some people to rethink their jobs, others try to improve the situation with better posture and gadgets. The Logitech Wave Keys falls in the latter category by offering an ergonomically designed keyboard for those who spend long hours typing.
As the name suggests, the Logitech Wave Keys is designed like a wave. This means the keyboard actually looks like a wave and not the rectangular tablet we are used to. While the keys are spread out with a flowing wave pattern, going up and down slightly in height as you move from ASDF to LKJH, you realise this array fits perfectly from where your wrists are rested.

Yes, there is a cushioned pad at the bottom of the space bar where you can easily rest your hands and ensure you are not lifting your wrists a bit when typing. I could easily reach all the alphabets from where I had plonked my two wrists. However, I had to stretch a bit to get to the full row of function keys and move the right hand a bit more to that side to get to the number keys. But this is perfectly fine, given that both of these are used rarely in regular workflows.

Moving from the keyboard of an iMac and MacBook, it did take me a few sessions to get used to the spacing between the keys. My accuracy rate did improve after a few hours of using the Wave Keys. But then I started enjoying the experience, especially since I was not resting my hands on the ice-cold metal of the MacBook early in the morning when I write the most. The cushion is great though I would have preferred a more fabric finish for the same as I am not that happy using synthetic material.
The keys offer a perfect amount of travel, a soft cushion and a recoil, making your fingers crave for the next key to hit on. I loved the type feel of the keyboard and felt my typing speed was improving gradually as it felt more welcoming than the keys I’m used to.
Under the keyboard are two kickstands in case you want to adjust the height. I was better off with the incline of the stands and felt the waves worked better at this angle. The rear also houses two AAA cells to power the keyboard and a holder for the USB-C dongle in case you want to connect this to a PC that lacks Bluetooth connectivity. I was using the Wave Keys primarily with the iMac and had no such issues.
And this connectivity is also where the magic of this keyboard really kicks in. This can connect to up to three devices — in my case the iPhone and iPad with the iMac on my workstation. There are three Function keys to let you switch from one gadget to the other faster than you can move your gaze from one screen to the other. While this is a great flexibility to have, I have never been able to work with this kind of a multi-device environment though I have been trying to master this multitasking capability for many years.

But where the keyboard comes in very handy is when you get access to stuff you can’t do so easily on the iPad, for instance by taking screenshots with a single button. There are also buttons to mute the mic and control your music playlist, both more mobile functionalities than something you would need on a large-screen environment. There is even a function button to open up the smiley tray, certainly a killer feature for conquering WhatsApp web.
Due to its thicker form factor, it’s not meant for frequent travellers (Image credit: Nandagopal Rajan/The Indian Express)
On the flip side, this is a really large keyboard and despite its ability to supercharge the iPad, I would not dare take this in my bag pack. In fact, even on my largish home-office desk, the keyboard was struggling for space and was almost on the fringes because I used a small Daily Objects organiser under the iMac.
At Rs 6,495, the Logitech Wave Keys is among the best options for you to take the pain out of long hours of work, be it in the office or at home. Don’t consider this as a keyboard that will travel with you, otherwise, this is a perfect wave of keys.
