YouTube has grown multifold since its launch in 2005. YouTube has over 2.49 billion monthly active users as of March 2024 and over 460 million users just from India, making it the biggest market in the world.

Unlike most video streaming platforms that require a subscription, YouTube is a freemium platform. The ad-supported version is free and the ad-free version is locked beyond the paywall.

Both individual creators and media conglomerates have contributed to YouTube’s success. YouTube pays a part of the ad revenue to content creators. This has become a bankable income stream that thousands of people, over the last few years, have become full-time YouTubers.
