Expanded Copilot features, AI magic for Photos and Clipchamp, and more with the Moment 5 update. (Express image)Microsoft is rolling out a major update also dubbed ‘Moment 5’ to Windows 11 that introduces several new features and improvements for users.
These features are headlined by expanded capabilities for Copilot, the AI-powered assistant built into Windows. Starting in late March, Copilot will gain skills like enabling battery saver mode, launching accessibility features like Narrator or Magnifier, showing available Wi-Fi networks, reporting storage space, and emptying the recycle bin. Users will be able to control more aspects of their PC through conversation with Copilot.
The update also brings new AI magic to the Photos app. A feature called Generative Erase will let users remove unwanted objects from photos just by selecting them. We touched upon this previously, where you’ll also find instructions on how to use the feature. Additionally, Microsoft’s video editor Clipchamp is gaining the ability to delete awkward pauses and silences from videos automatically.
Several other apps within Windows 11 are being improved in the update. The Widgets board is getting some useful new capabilities, including the ability to finally disable the “Microsoft Start” feed of MSN content. This makes Widgets fully customisable to each user’s interests.
The Snap feature, which lets users easily resize app windows, is also getting an upgrade. It will now remember frequently used snap layouts and recommend them automatically for greater convenience.
Phone Link, the integration between Windows 11 and Android phones, has a couple of neat new additions as well. Users will be able to access recent photos from their phone directly on their PC. They can also use their Android camera as a webcam for video calls and conferencing. These features will roll out first to Windows Insiders for testing.
Finally, accessibility is being improved with a Voice Shortcuts option. This lets users create custom voice commands to automate multiple tasks at once within Windows’ existing voice access feature. For example, a single voice shortcut could open a website and perform other steps to speed up common tasks.
As Microsoft rolls the update out over the coming weeks, Windows 11 users have a lot to look forward to.
