The UP Anti-Narcotics Task Force arrested Man Singh, a supporting actor known for small roles in web series like Farzi and The Family Man, in an MDMA trafficking case.
The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Narcotics Task Force (UP ANTF) has arrested a supporting actor, who reportedly played small roles in popular web series such as Farzi and The Family Man, in connection with an MDMA trafficking racket.
Police said the accused, Man Singh (39), had been absconding for nearly a year in a case registered last October at New Agra police station under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Acting on specific inputs, police said a team of the ANTF’s Agra unit traced his location to Mumbai and arrested him on December 11. He was brought to Agra on a transit remand and produced before a local court, which sent him to judicial custody, said Superintendent of Police, UP ANTF, Chakresh Mishra.
Police said during questioning, the accused claimed he was originally a resident of Rajouri Garden in Delhi. In 2008, he moved to Mumbai to make a career in the film industry. Police said Singh claimed to have worked in the industry for nearly 15 years, including small appearances in several films and web series. However, investigators said his credited work so far has been traced mainly to the two web series.
Police further said that in Mumbai, Singh came in contact with a person who allegedly drew him into drug trafficking. Singh then allegedly procured drugs from Mumbai and supplied them in Agra and Delhi.
During questioning, police said he reportedly revealed that he had been involved in the illegal trade for the past four to five years. Investigators further claimed he was active in Mumbai and Goa and had also made several trips to Thailand from Mumbai.
This is the first criminal case registered against Singh, said Mishra.
Police said investigation revealed financial motives were behind his alleged involvement in the racket. According to officials, although he was getting work in the industry, it was not to his satisfaction. Hoping to “make it big,” he needed money for expenses such as professional photo shoots and other career-related investments.
His name, police said, surfaced during the questioning of two accused who were earlier arrested with MDMA. Police had been searching for him for the past six months before finally arresting him. Officials also said they have collected documentary evidence to substantiate his alleged involvement in the racket.
Singh’s arrest was made as part of an ongoing drive to nab wanted criminals, police said. The case against him has been registered under various sections of the NDPS Act.
